About the Program
Root and Roam is a teacher-guided, child-led outdoor homeschool nature program for children ages 6–10. Meeting one day each week on our working homestead, children learn through hands-on experiences in nature while building meaningful connections with the land, animals, and one another.
Our program blends academic learning with real-world experiences. Science, math, language arts, history, physical education, and social-emotional learning are not taught as separate subjects, but are naturally woven into our days outdoors. Whether children are observing seasonal changes, caring for animals, conducting experiments, exploring new books, or recording discoveries in their nature journals, learning happens through curiosity, exploration, and direct engagement with the natural world.
Each gathering is thoughtfully guided by the teacher while allowing space for children’s questions and interests to lead the way. Through activities like nature journaling, outdoor experiments, research, storytelling, animal care, creative play, and group collaboration, children develop critical thinking, confidence, and a deep appreciation for the world around them.
At Root and Roam, we believe that some of the most meaningful learning happens outside the classroom—when children are free to explore, ask questions, get their hands dirty, and discover how the world works firsthand.

Testimonials from Nature Co-op Families 〰️
“One of the best decisions we made when our family began our homeschooling journey was to join Kara’s Nature Co-op program. Not only is she kind and welcoming, but she has the ability to meet every child where they are at and help them to feel successful and confident. I have witnessed incredible growth in all of my children since they have been part of her program!”
“Miss Kara is a genuine, passionate, energetic mom and teacher. Her love of nature and animals is passed along through thoughtful hands on lessons in her nature co-op. She creates engaging activities that reflect her many talents. Her co-op reaches all levels of learners as well provides a place for kids to explore and play. ”
“The balance of structured learning and free exploration is perfect. Kiddos are encouraged to be curious, get a little messy, and truly engage with the natural world around them. Kara fosters confidence, creativity, and a deep appreciation for the outdoors.”
